This coin is artfully crafted and is emblematic of the Mayflower voyage and its history.
The obverse and reverse of this coin were both beautifully designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist Chris Costello.
The coinâs obverse depicts a Wampanoag family watching from the border of the design as the Mayflower arrives from foreign shores. A young boy steps on the border, representing the intersection of the Wampanoag people in their Patuxet homeland and the Mayflower passengers. Inscriptions are âE PLURIBUS UNUM,â âPATUXET,â and â$10.â
Its reverse depicts portraits of a Pilgrim man and woman, representing the beginnings of a transition from monarchy to democracy. The dual portraits symbolize a democratic organization, with their resolute expressions focused on a self-determined future. A pair of mayflower blossoms flank the design. Inscriptions are â1620,â âPLYMOUTH,â â2020,â âIN GOD WE TRUST,â âAU 24K 1/4 OZ.,â and âUNITED STATES of AMERICA.â
The coin is encapsulated and enclosed in a cadet blue presentation case. The Mayflower ship imagery, which appears on the coin, appears outlined on the inside lid of case, which is secured in an outer packaging of similar color. An outer sleeve with the product name in gold foil complements the packaging. A beautiful Certificate of Authenticity with a brief story of the Mayflower arrival signed by the Director of the United States Mint is included with the set. Only 10,000 of these coins will be minted.
