Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve 2020 Quarter, 3-
The 2020 America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set⢠â Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve is the third of five sites to be honored in 2020 and the 53rd overall in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. It is a living museum on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. It boasts an archeological and historical heritage more than 2,000 years old that exists within a dynamic ecosystem that supports threatened and endangered species. In 1992, Congress created Salt River Bay to preserve, protect, and tell the story of its rich contributions to the Nationâs natural and cultural heritage.
This design depicts a red mangrove tree in an early stage of its life cycle, as it evolves from a very small plant to an adult tree. The design brings awareness to the parkâs endangered mangrove forests and the unique and delicate nature of how the species reproduces in salt water. Inscriptions are âSALT RIVER BAY,â âU.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS,â â2020,â and âE PLURIBUS UNUM.â
Each three-coin set features an uncirculated quarter from the Philadelphia Mint, an uncirculated quarter from the Denver Mint, and a proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint. The coins are held in a durable plastic card with a picturesque image and brief description of the site and the coin, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity on the back of the card.
